Reasoning

Understanding that I will not be able to use the Bible as a primary reference for my academic work, I do however want to use it as inspiration for my poetry writing and jewellery designs.

Using my previous work as reference, I had found that the subject matter which I most related with and was more passionate about, were the ones which had allowed me to create my stronger pieces such as the caged bird series and the living grave.

I cannot think of anything I feel more passionate about and have written more about than God. Personal reasons aside, there has never been a more controversial topic and one which relevant to all walks of life.

Poetic Analysis

One of the relevant literatures which I have come across was an article entitled: “Poetic Inquiry as a Research and Engagement Method in Natural Resource Science”, written by three authors. Reflection

In my B.Tech studies, I had played down the groundwork for what I had hoped to further explore for further work, that is Interart translation. I am still very much interested in the concept of using using two art mediums in order to narrate one singular narrative thought, as I do not feel that there was room still left to explored in terms of execution. My initial thought was to once more deal with feminine issues and use the body of work as an extension of some of the topics which were related to my previous work. This was especially motivated by the recent events which had taken place throughout the year, which led to the rape and death of several women and girls in South Africa. So I had proposed to myself that I would base my narrative on rape. It was not just a relevant topic, but one which sparked a lot of discussion. However I have since decided to take a different narrative approach, by keeping it personal and using the Bible as a narrative basis.

Skinning the Cat/ Research

I have been researching the various methods in which I could approach my research in order to integrate my poetry as a fundamental part of my work. My initial though was to further develop and investigate Translation using the interart mediums of jewellery and poetry. However, through my holiday research, I have found that there have been previous works which have included poetry as central part of research.  Some of the studies which I have come across have chosen to explore the use of poetry within academic research as follows: Poetic inquiry, Art-based Qualitative Research, Autobiographical Writing, Narrative Inquiry, Performative Research, Poetry as a Research Method, Ekphrasis, Autoethnography as Research Method, Poetry as a Process and a Product of Research, Practice-based and Practice-led Research, Inter-Art Research, and Interart Translation.  Proving there truly are countless ways to skin a cat, and in my case that there are many ways to approach research. ...
